The Applications Architect - Java is responsible for defining the technical strategy of key application/product areas, ensuring solutions meet company strategies. The Applications Architect drives product and technology enablers to meet both functional and non-functional requirements and ensures that a product is of a high technical quality.

Primary Duties
As the application/product portfolio authority, responsible for the technical specification of projects and choice of technology including the development, integration, testing, infrastructure and ongoing operational maintenance
Consults with business clients on conceptual issues
Interprets product/ project requirements and translates into solutions that can be implemented by the development team
Promotes the re-use of code, components, and systems in order to ensure that these support the widest range of company products possible and are aligned with technical strategy
Ensures that technical solutions/products delivered are within project scope, supportable, cost effective, high quality, meet the department’s strategic business needs and align with technical strategies
Produce clear, technical design documentation and diagrams detailing existing and proposed technical architectures
Assist the IT Management by advising on product road-maps to achieve strategic goals
As technical authority, provides guidance and support to other developers thereby improving the standard of technical delivery and competencies within the development teams
Builds effective relationships with other technical teams
Aligns architectural solutions with product groups including collaboration on solution design to ensure quality end-to-end solutions
Analyzes existing and future application/product volumetric to ensure the architecture is scalable for business growth

Requirements:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from a 4 year college or university
Minimum of 6 years in network design, implementation, and support of large enterprise networks
or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with warehouse management, transportation management, customs brokerage, retail, and/or e-commerce preferred
Extensive proven experience in specifying, developing and deploying architectures and infrastructure for software applications in a new media multi-tiered application environment preferred
Experience in defining and developing high-volume, horizontally scalable architectures preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Visio, Excel, and Outlook
Minimum 5 years of web application development experience (JEE, JSp, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML) preferred
Minimum 4 years experience with SQL (PL/SQL or TSQL) preferred
Minimum 4 years experience with JavaScript, jQuery and Ajax preferred
Knowledge of standard Java Libraried (Log4j, slf4j, apache commons, Google collections) preferred
Experience with Google Web Toolkit and unit testing (JUnit or EasyMock) preferred Essential Skills
A broad knowledge of existing and emerging technologies and their potential to enhance the performance and robustness of a technical architecture
Ability to think strategically and evaluate options for a short, medium and long term delivery
Ability to translate business and feature requirements into technical specifications
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrable ability developing software in a SOA paradigm
In-depth knowledge of large scale database design and optimization is preferred
A solid understanding of how to work with different text encodings
Experience working with structured data formats (e.g. RDF, ATOM, XML)
Experience leading a technical or multi-disciplinary team
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to scope, execute and deliver projects in a timely and cost effective manner
Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
