As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. The IT Storage Performance Architect specializes in enterprise storage performance technologies while having a broad-spectrum understanding of the other technology domains. Focus will be on enterprise storage technologies involving EMC DMX\VMAX, HP 3PAR, NetApp, identifying and making use of software array based features, IO/bandwidth performance capabilities and capacity reporting to include free, allocated, and used storage in the environment. Examples of array based features to be integrated into the THD environment i.e., SRDF/a, SYMMClone, MSC,SNAPS, Clones, Adaptive optimization, FAST\VP, De-Duplication, Compression, Encryption, & Replication.

This person will develop and follow a collaborative process with stakeholders and peer IT Architects in collecting related business and technical requirements; to deliver the appropriate technical storage architecture as part of the overall solutions architecture. Together with peer storage architect(s), scope and define the storage technology strategy in accordance with the broader datacenter strategy; translate this strategy into capability and technology roadmaps.

Identify, document, and deliver the required artifacts to make new technology capabilities readily available, including strategy collateral, roadmaps, position statements, policies, standards, concepts and technical specifications. Consult throughout the execution phase, after the architecture phase, including the design, engineering, implementation and operation. Remain committed to continuously feed implementation and operational challenges back into architectural opportunities.

Influence strategic decision makers, engage with a broad set of stakeholders and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines, build strong relationships, and constantly communicate strategy, architecture and technology to the broader IT community. Build lasting partnerships with the engineering and operations teams. Maintain a good understanding of the technical needs of the data center clients, specifically server, middleware and application/database architecture. Drive new and innovative technology adoption, and mentor architects and technical leads.

Work closely with the Enterprise Architecture Organization in a trusted advisor role to influence the overall storage product and services portfolio, representing the Enterprise Storage Team. On occasions, he or she will be asked to engage in highly visible complex requirements and implementation opportunities, deliver a comprehensive content for company standards and best practice, and represent the Enterprise Storage Team to the company.

Must have a thorough and solid technical knowledge of enterprise storage technologies and how these can be leveraged to solve business challenges. He or she must also has significant breadth of understanding across other disciplines, e.g. networking, compute services, databases, middleware, applications, information lifecycle management, business continuity, virtualization, physical data center architecture, security, enterprise architecture, systems management, systems resiliency, service support, and service delivery.

The Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and lifecycle management of technology architectures and application architectures that support one or more application systems. The Architect is responsible for identifying and implementing technology and application solution designs and delivering sustainable, cost-effective business applications based on industry and business research. This position is also responsible for implementation and oversight of sustaining technology governance processes and associated teaching and mentoring of Business and IT Associates in proper use of the technology and application base.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Lead design, development, and deployment of technical and application solutions to meet business requirements that are cost effective and sustainable. Deliver conceptual, logical, and physical solution specifications.

Translate business requirements using complex methods and models to determine appropriate system solutions.

Provide input into annual budget planning for technology migrations and project cost estimation.

Research, identify, test, certify, and select technology products required for solution delivery.

Establish and implement technology migration strategies for a specific application or architecture within an IT portfolio.

Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed.

NATURE AND SCOPE -
Typically reports to Senior Architect, Senior Manager, or Director

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 9

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Define, document, and maintain storage performance, capacity, availability, and recoverability needs and acceptance criteria for EMC DMX\VMAX, Clarion, HP 3PAR, & NetApp
Describe IO performance offerings and make recommendations based on requirements
Identify array based features and integrate for use into the THD environment i.e., SRDF/A, MSC, FAST\VP, SNAPS, Clones, De-duplication, Compression, Encryption
Develop, document, and maintain monitoring and reporting of array perfromance & health
Describe benchmarking cases to be used for service catalogues
Set customers' expectations on array IO and bandwidth performance
Architect a system general principles including hardware (memory, drives, ports) and software (local and remote replication, de-duplication, compression, and encryption)
Utilize industry best practices defining company standards
Understand design trade-offs and articulate to management
Develop and publish capacity and performance reports\dashboards
Develop, publish and maintain storage tier offering
Size for storage array capacity and performance needs of the company
Run Proof of Concepts and bake offs in assessing different storage technologies\vendors
Document the solution deliverables and present to Infrastructure Review Boards for approval

MS degree.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Expert technical proficiency in one or more of the following: Retail applications, Windows platform, UNIX platforms, MVS COBOL, JAVA, J2EE, Relational Databases, Websphere Application Server, Websphere Commerce, Websphere MQ, Networking (Voice, LAN, WAN), SAP, Siebel, Peoplesoft.

Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain.

Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Strong oral and written communications skills.
