COMMUNITY: Valley City is a community of approximately 6,500 people, located in the beautiful Sheyenne River Valley in the east central portion of the state. Fargo-Moorhead, a metropolitan area, is located 60 miles east of Valley City on Interstate 94. Minneapolis-St. Paul and Winnipeg, Manitoba are within 300 miles on Interstate 94 and Interstate 29, respectively. The location of the community lends itself to cultural and recreational activities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Art seeks an accomplished scholar in painting or printmaking who will join us in shaping our undergraduate program. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, service, and scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will possess a multidisciplinary orientation as well as knowledge of broad contemporary art practices in order to teach courses and advise BA and BS students. The appointee will demonstrate leadership skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. The appointee will be expected to successfully participate in departmental operations and institutional governance, including maintaining and managing the printmaking facilities. Teaching load consists of undergraduate courses in drawing, printmaking, painting, and art history/humanities as well as departmental undergraduate seminars on a rotating basis and independent studies with undergraduate students. A commitment to excellence in both teaching and creative work is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: MFA degree in Drawing and Printmaking (or related field). Practicing artist in drawing, printmaking, or painting with evidence of an active exhibition record at a national level. Ability to teach various painting and printmaking techniques; thorough knowledge of art history, cultural studies, and contemporary critical theory.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: One to three years of university-level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships. Expertise in contemporary issues, criticism, and critical theory.

SALARY, BENEFITS, AND TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Commensurate with education and experience. Group health and disability are provided. Participation in TIAA-CREF is part of the state higher education retirement program. This is a nine-month, full-time, tenured track position.
