Full-time, tenure-track teaching faculty position at the Bethlehem campus. Courses include Intro and Advanced Web Design, Web Animation, Interactive Programming, additional Web Development classes, 3-D Computer Animation, and Graphic Design and Typography. The teaching load is 15 credits/semester; 30 credits/academic year. In addition to teaching, all faculty members must engage in substantive college service and professional growth activity every year and advise students. The successful candidate will be ready to integrate technology and use multiple techniques in the teaching of communication design at Northampton. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of current web standards – i.e. CSS3, HTML5, CMS , mobile applications and database management. Should also be familiar with interactive programming trends and have ability to use programming in teaching creative interactive design classes. Software expertise in Adobe Suite CS6 and Final Cut Pro. Ability to teach 3D computer animation with MAYA a plus. Additionally, the College seeks a candidate who displays: A strong creative graphic design background and ability to address current aesthetic, technical and theoretical issues of New Media Design and Digital Art; A commitment to learner-centered instruction in a community college environment; An ability to develop and revise curriculum for credit programs; An ability to develop and maintain strong links with 4-year colleges/art schools for student transfer.
Any candidate invited for interview for this position will be asked to: Participate in a conference call interview; Show samples of creative/scholarly work and their students’ work; Discuss teaching philosophy and show examples of course syllabi; Present a live teaching demonstration for the search committee and a class of students in the Communications Design program.
Minimum of Master’s degree in the field, MFA or MA in Digital Media preferred, strong background in New Media Design; a graphic design background desirable. Three years college teaching experience (preferably in a community college); proven ability to meet the needs of community college students; experience working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds; current knowledge of academic assessment practices; willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
