Skidmore College Department of Theater is recruiting applicants for a full-time artist-in-residence to teach key undergraduate courses in directing and acting. A successful candidate will teach five courses per year, direct one production, oversee the student directing program, and will participate in college and department affairs. The position will begin in the Fall 2014 semester. Artists-in-residence are on 3 year renewable contracts. The salary will be commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and directing as well as significant work in the professional theater. Although an MFA in directing or acting is preferred, exceptional professional experience will be taken into consideration. Significant teaching and directing experience at the college level is essential. We are particularly open to candidates from under-represented groups and to those individuals who have experience with diverse populations and can contribute to the diversity and excellence of Skidmore's academic community. Skidmore offers an intensive Bachelor of Science degree in theater that balances serious pre-professional training with a strong commitment to liberal arts learning. Skidmore College is committed to interdisciplinary teaching and it is expected that all full-time faculty will teach an interdisciplinary seminar in the College's First Year Experience program every four to six years. The department seeks a dynamic individual who might eventually be considered for a leadership position.

Minimum Qualifications:
a. MFA degree in either directing or acting or extensive comparable professional experience.

b. Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at the higher-education or professional studio level

c. Experience teaching a range of directing and acting courses

d. Experience in academic directing

e. Significant professional experience in directing and/or acting

f. A successful candidate will display potential for excellence in teaching and professional development, a commitment to undergraduate education, and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
