Summary of Job Content:
To fabricate assemblies including composite/metallic hybrid assembly and bonding, as per specifications and drawings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Reads, interprets and works to blueprints, customer and manufacturer’s specifications, engineering sketches, standard task procedures. Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions and interface well with the technical and engineering group. Will be required to make prototypes and pathfinders, with minimum written instructions, and should be capable to work off drawings, specifications and blueprints and verbal instructions. Needs to be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Needs to have exceptional communication skills and provide feedback on tasks assigned.
Transports and handles cured parts, tools and templates for assembly.
Prepares tools and templates for assembly, by cleaning, sanding, damage inspection, area separation and assembling tool components.
Debags, removes peel ply and surface preps for bonding surfaces and prepares parts for testing.
Must possess skills to perform:
Assembly of all kinds of parts.
Cutting, routing, trimming, deburring, clamping, reaming, grinding, drilling (both hand and bench drill), sanding, riveting, and counter sinking.
Weighing and mixing liquid shim, application of liquid shim, clean up prior to liquid shim hardening and ensuring a good bond. Bonding of metals, composites, cores, honeycombs and various other materials or combinations thereof using various adhesives.
Measuring, locating, installing fasteners and rivets, bushings, Eddie bolts and nuts, Blind Huck installation, and use of aids such as clecos.
Use all types of assembly fixtures, hand, mechanical and pneumatic tools, templates, gauges, measuring instruments and safety equipment.
Sanding, surface preparation, fill and fare, application of primers, clear coats and paints including oven curing paints and primers and identification and preparation for inspection and shipment.
All types of repairs, including surface repairs and rebuilding parts.
Examines parts for failure to conform to company or customer specifications.
Records and maintains records such as production manufacturing instructions and work order instructions, SPC charts, safety, environmental and schedule.
Package parts if required.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on tools and equipment.
Operates hoists, all assembly equipment and forklifts.
Actively and effectively participates in work and problem solving teams. Identifies and completes goals and process improvement opportunities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE : Previous experience using hand tools, grinders, cutting and drilling tools, and fastener installation and the educational background to meet the language, mathematical, and reasoning ability requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, interpret and work to various written documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, work orders, work order instructions, specifications, material safety data sheets, standard task procedures and blueprints (specifically: block information – revision, tolerances, sheet numbers, part number and change level – ACN’s, zones views, projections and dimensioning). Ability to read and to write routine reports and correspondence. Must speak effectively before groups of employees of organization, with vendor representatives, etc.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to covert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must effectively participate in team problem solving.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Understanding and use of group decision-making techniques, and problem solving meeting techniques. Ability to function in a team environment.
Must be able to use scissors, Stanley knives, balance scales, various small hand tools and measuring tape, caliper and dial indicators.
Must have basic computer skills including data entry and be willing to enhance such skills to learn new software and programs.
