The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program in the Hauptmann School of Public Affairs at Park University invites applications for a faculty position in healthcare administration (rank of assistant/associate professor). The successful candidate would join a team of academically and professionally qualified individuals in a dynamic and fast-growing program in the process of seeking national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning August 2014.
The MHA degree is a cross-sector professional degree which focuses on integrating theory and practice in healthcare administration across the curriculum. The Hauptmann School, located in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, is an ideal setting for local faculty and student engagement within a vibrant community.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate level in healthcare administration and leadership. This position requires proficiency in the online learning environment, teaching adult learners, and the ability to mentor part-time faculty.
Duties include actively assisting the MHA Director in promoting the program, developing program curriculum, reviewing and revising syllabi and online courses, advising students, managing the written comprehensive examinations, assisting students with internships, and fostering contacts with professional organizations. Additional responsibilities include conducting periodic reviews of the effectiveness of the program to support CAHME accreditation and university assessment needs, as well as engaging in scholarly research and professional development activities, and participating in service to Park University, the community, and the profession.
A Ph.D./D.H.A degree in healthcare administration, health policy, healthcare informatics, or a terminal degree in a relevant healthcare-related field is required, along with scholarly work in health systems management/ leadership, healthcare informatics, administrative and organizational theory, health law and ethics, healthcare finance and economics, health policy, and/or related fields. Also required are strong oral and written communication skills, an excellent understanding of education principles and methodologies, and exceptional leadership and organizational abilities.
Cross-sector and interdisciplinary teaching experience is highly desired, as well as healthcare management experience. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated presentation/publication work in his/her area of expertise, and a solid ability to deal with ambiguity in today’s rapidly changing and exciting higher education and healthcare environments.
