The Assistant Chemist is responsible for the day-to day activities in the laboratory working under prescribed procedures ( protocols, standard operating procedures, methods, etc.). Assist in planning the conduct of a study. Monitors study procedures to ensure data accuracy and report quality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Carries out routine experiments and research procedures in accordance with all regulatory ( i.e. EPA, FIFRA, and OECD) requirements as defined by the protocol and standard operating procedures.
Adheres to schedule of research according to ABC’s or contracting organization’s timetable, and establishes daily or weekly routines necessary to meet project timelines.
Performs procedures using a variety of laboratory equipment, computer resources, and institutional libraries. Handles regulated materials ( quarantined matrices, DEA-controlled and radiolabeled materials, etc.), potential biohazard materials, and toxic chemicals according to company procedures and policies as required by the studies performed.
May work on several projects concurrently.
May assist in the training and orientation of staff to laboratory techniques.
Performs data evaluations and reviews the work of subordinates for accuracy and completeness.
May prepare routine reports and data summaries of completed projects for incorporation into final reports.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry or related field. Laboratory experience preferred.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills or Training:
Knowledge of the following equipment: Diluter systems, small laboratory equipment ( meters, balances, drying ovens, etc.), analytical instrumentation ( HPLC, GC, LC/MS, Spectrometer, Particle Counter, etc), preferred.
