The Assistant City Attorney/Civil Service Legal Advisor is a highly visible position within the organization primarily providing counsel on legal matters affecting law enforcement and civil services matters. This role will require an individual with the ability to communicate effectively and translate legal technical information to “laymen's” terms. The ability to listen, analyze, and prepare accurate and precise legal documents is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications REQUIRED:

  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in Texas
  • License to practice law in the Southern District of Texas (Federal) or submission of Federal admission packet to obtain license within six (6) months of hire.
  • Three years experience in law enforcement and criminal law.
  • Three years experience in criminal prosecution.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


  • Experience teaching law enforcement.
  • Basic Peace Officer Certificate from T.C.L.E.O.S.E.
  • Prosecutorial experience at county or district court level
  • License to practice law in U.S. Court of Appeals-5th Circuit.

    SALARY: $70,042 – $105,063/annually (DOQ)
