Eastern Kentucky University's GURUs are experienced students who help all EKU students professionally and personally. The Assistant Coordinator will not only fulfill these duties, but be responsible for ensuring that GURUs assigned to their locations are fulfilling their duties, as well, and for providing proper leadership in the process. Assistant coordinators will create, implement and promote new and ongoing projects for the Common Knowledge program. They will assist with handling management/personnel duties in all three locations and report directly to the coordinator. Assistant Coordinators will be responsible for ensuring that both themselves and GURUs are fulfilling the following responsibilities to the program: -To provide a supporting environment for students -To assist students in becoming self-independent, self-confident, efficient learners -To assist students in their educational persistence -To work collaboratively with other EKU student support areas and connecting students to those resources -To encourage development of relationships with faculty, students and staff In addition to basic GURU responsibilities, Assistant Coordinators will be responsible for: -Providing feedback concerning GURU performance to Common Knowledge program supervisor(s) -Developing training programs to ensure that GURUs understand their responsibilities, and leading GURUs through the implementation of the mission -Developing strategies to better apply the GURU mission to the campus community -Providing thorough leadership for GURUs to look to in order to facilitate the mission of the program GURU Responsibilities -Be approachable and available to meet the needs of students throughout the academic year. -Serve as a role model of positive behavior -Be a liaison for First-Year seminars (GSO 102 and 100) with adjustment and transitional issues -Help students adjust and become successful academically and socially -Serve as an advocate for the interests, needs and rights of students -Serve as a mentor and peer advisor to students for academic, co-curricular, and leadership involvement -Direct students to other individuals, organizations, and programs at EKU related to their interests and needs -Be a resource person and referral agent for EKU Strong preference given to candidates who are self motivated, take initiative and responsibility, and have a strong pride in their work.

Minimum Experience Qualifications:
Prior work experience is required, preferrably to include experience with the Common Knowledge program, EKU GURU program or related experience.
