Assistant Director-Pharmacy (Job Opening 376013) - Scope of Position:
The James Cancer Hospital's mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education and research. The Clinical Coordinator functions as a member of a team of clinical pharmacists cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The Clinical Coordinator provides guidance, direction and assistance to the clinical pharmacists in order to attain/maintain quality care to patients at The James. The pharmacists provide ongoing pharmacokinetic and medication safety monitoring, symptom management, approve new drug orders, and screen for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug-allergy, drug-food (in cooperation with the Dietetics Department), drug-disease state and drug-laboratory interactions. In addition, the pharmacists provide answers to drug information questions for patients, family, nurses, physicians, medical students, undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students and other associate hospital personnel. The clinical pharmacists also play an integral part in cancer chemotherapy by serving as an information resource and reviewing/activating all cancer chemotherapy orders. Patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all patient care team members.

Position Summary:
The Clinical Coordinator is an advanced practice pharmacist who demonstrates clinical expertise in pharmacy practice; including drug information, staff education, research, collaboration with other disciplines and interdisciplinary development activities. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the development of a pharmacy-based research program. In addition, the Clinical Coordinator will provide staff and residents the mentoring necessary to design and execute scientifically sound and important research projects. The Clinical Coordinator will assist in the professional development of hematology/oncology clinical pharmacists, specialists, and residents. The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for the development of unique clinical pharmacy programs and cost-savings measures, the development, implementation, and oversight of evidence-based medication use guidelines, the development of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Role in the outpatient clinics, and the continued refinement of the Inpatient Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Role.

Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (BS or PharmD degree) and eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Ohio. A minimum of 5 years of Hematology/Oncology experience, experience with clinical program development, teaching/mentoring, and committee participation preferred. Previous research experience along with sustained contribution to oncology practice through research, publications, presentations, and involvement in professional organizations required. Board Certification in Oncology Practice required.
