Basic Job Concept :

Responsible for assisting in scheduling second run drivers weekly. Assisting with routing for second run deliveries and assigning second runs to scheduled drivers, along with dispatching second runs quickly and efficiently. Responsible for assisting with monitoring and evaluating performance, fielding incoming calls, re-routing drivers when necessary and utilizing manpower efficiently to achieve the goals of the department and satisfy the customer.

Educational Requirements :

High School diploma or G.E.D.

Prefer secondary education

Class B CDL Required

Experience Required :

1. Ability to train, motivate, discipline and develop route drivers
  • Two (2) to three (3) years prior supervisory background preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Two (2) years minimum experience as a Delivery driver.
  • Profeciency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Specific Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the effecient operation of the Transportation department in the Transportation Manager’s absence.
  • Assist in routing all customers to ensure delivery window complaince.
  • Assure all keys for trucks are in the office and accounted for daily.
  • Maintain proper documentation and log books as required by the DOT.
  • Ensure all drivers are completing vehicle DVIRs daily.
  • Daily entry of Manifest Data into the AS400 & Additional systems and spreadsheets.
  • Complete payroll and turn in all documentation in timely manner in Transportation Manager’s absence.
  • Assure drivers are properly trained in department policies, customer service, safety, and driving ability.
  • Work closely with other departments to assure customer service is provided in the most efficient method.
  • Assist in preparing performance evaluations on route drivers when due.
  • Answer incoming calls from drivers regarding problems and reroute when necessary.
  • Check all trucks to ensure they are all chocked, and the emergency brakes are properly set. Also, make sure any lights either in the cab or in the box are turned off.
  • Make sure cabs are cleaned out daily.
  • Verify the next days staffing and equipment availability.
  • Manage Fleet rotation.
  • Communicate and with area vendors.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Transportation Manager.


  • Qualifications:

  • Commercial Drivers’ License, Class A or B. preferred
  • Ability to motivate, train and develop, and discipline subordinates.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of computer programs and functions including Windows, Microsoft Office and AS400 applications.


  • Physical Requirements:

    The Physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must be able to pass D.O.T. physical, stay D.O.T. certified and keep a valid Class “A” or “B” CDL.
  • Stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, squat, turn body, and walk.
  • Lift and move cases (selecting product and placing on a pallet) ranging in weight up to 75 lbs continuously to and from heights ranging from floor to knee, waist, shoulder, and overhead.
  • Use hands and fingers to peel and stick labels on cases.
  • Handle and feel objects and/or equipment controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the ability to talk and hear; and hear warning horns on moving machinery and equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include close and distance vision, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must exhibit a high level of endurance, energy, and strength to successfully perform position.
  • Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, an associate regularly works near moving mechanical apparatus and is regularly exposed to vibration and moderate to high noise levels. The work environment includes congested and high traffic areas, slippery floors, working alongside forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk behind jacks and hand carts. Walking and working is done on concrete flooring. Some duties are performed in the warehouse and will require work to be done in varying climates. Temperatures range from zero in the coolers to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or above outdoors. The shift end-time fluctuates with the employer’s daily needs. The associate occasionally works in high and precarious places.
