This is a full time position with benefits.

BASIC FUNCTION: Manages essential pieces of the Kansas City Zoo’s membership sales and management plan including events, supporting material and soliciting sales. Always must reflect the Zoo’s family-friendly image in all materials, activities and actions. Evening and weekend hours are required and are part of the weekly schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Emphasis on organization, relationship building, as well as creative, persuasive and critical thinking and supervisory skills are essential.

Recruit, supervise and train all employees who assist with on-site sales, off-site sales, data entry, phone calls and membership packet fulfillment.

Ensure membership sales through internal and external means

Internal: ensure all areas have the proper information and props to answer questions, suggestive sell and can demonstrate the value of a membership; make sure front line staff knows corporate partners, how to process a membership in 2 minutes or less, when to ask for questions, when to step in and help

External: corporate partners, intranet sales, community leaders, direct mail, newsletter, phone sales, employees and volunteers

Meet and exceed membership sales goals

Maintain accurate and timely processes for fulfilling and selling memberships

Internal: manual, written procedures, training, troubleshooting technical issues within ticketing system and online web store in conjunction with the information technology department

External: ensure all FOTZ members at all levels are receiving accurate information; their information in database is correct, etc.

Explore and execute new avenues for increasing membership revenue, numbers and related materials

Maintain an accurate membership database

Evaluate and summarize effectiveness; make recommendations as needed

Coordinate and increase participation in membership benefit programs and events

Support all Zoo employees including assistance with events

Ensure completion of self-assigned and delegated assignments

Other duties, as assigned

Comply with all FOTZ policies, procedures and directive

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Wide variety of physical activity. Some days may be focused on computer or telephone work at a desk, which require typing dexterity, a clear speaking voice, an ability to hear clearly and sit for long periods of time. Other days may require vigorous physical activity, i.e. walking or driving around Zoo grounds, as well as moving or lifting objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Varied. Climate controlled building environment. Outside working on mild days with even less occasional days of extremes of heat, up to 100° in summer and temperatures below freezing in winter. Outside work is performed in a beautiful park setting.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Daily with employees; frequently with senior management and board leadership

External: Frequently with general public, corporate leaders, employees and volunteers

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College degree related field. Minimum two years related experience.

DECISION MAKING:
Must be able to make immediate decisions based on the best interests of the Zoo, the animals, the staff, the board and the visitors. Decisions are generally related to essential duties and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION:
Broad – considerable latitude is given to the position to carry out essential duties and determine the best method for placing the Zoo in the best possible light with its membership and the general public

EMOTIONAL:
High. Frequent short deadlines. Hectic work environment with occasional periods of big workloads and high stress.
