Augustana College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mathematics in the Fall of 2013. The Mathematics Department at Augustana has an enrollment of between forty-five and fifty majors. Excellence in teaching is highly valued, and the use of innovative teaching practices and technology is encouraged. Continued growth in the area of undergraduate research is an important priority of both the department and the college. Recent graduates are employed in secondary education and actuarial science, as well as numerous other industries; several are pursuing graduate degrees in mathematics or other areas. The department supports an active Math Club and a regional Math Teachers’ Circle.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college, will be an excellent teacher interested in teaching a wide variety of mathematics courses, and will direct individual students' work in undergraduate research and like experiences. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates from all specialties will be considered; priority will be given to applicants with a plan for incorporating undergraduate students into their research program.

Responsibilities: The teaching load is 3-1-3, with 15-week semesters in fall and spring and a 3-week January term. Candidates who demonstrate strong teaching and research skills and the willingness to work with, advise, and develop undergraduate students are preferred. The candidate will also be expected to provide service to the College and the department.

Salary: Competitive, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
