Position is responsible for coordinating the department's special events and outreach initiatives as well as identifies opportunities within which to promote the department's services and resources. The incumbent will serve as a point of contact for the media and is responsible for the department's graphic design opportunities. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing presentations, reports and memos in accordance with the needs of the division and department
Plans, manages and executes a wide range of special events including, but not limited to, press conferences, ground breakings, media tours and national event celebrations.
Designs and produces department's collateral materials including newsletters, brochures, flyers, advertisements, inserts, etc.
Develops outreach programs and initiatives to increase awareness of the department's services.
Produces audio and visual public service announcements and the department's monthly cable television show.
Negotiates sponsorship opportunities to promote the department.
Writes and disseminates media releases.
Serves as an agency spokesperson.
Represents the department at various city, business, community and neighborhood events and delivers presentations as needed.
Responsible for maintaining the department's website.
Responds to citizen inquiries and public records requests.
Completes reports as needed, including but not limited to, weekly status reports and year-end report.
Must be able to work independently as well as with a team.

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years prior work related experience. Knowledge of Microsoft applications required with Pagemaker and/or Quark preferred. Must be able to create repots and spreadsheets as needed and demonstrate creative ability when presented with unformatted projects and/or ideas. Must be able to establish and set priorities according to time sensitive information in order to have continued success in this position. Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats. Incumbents must be able to life up to 20 pounds.
Independent judgment is utilized when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause inconsistencies and inconveniences as well as regulatory and budgetary problems. Incumbents must rely on experience, judgment and timelines to plan and accomplish tasks in a timely manner. Position is required to work independently as well as work well on a team. Duties are performed under little to moderate supervision.
