The primary purpose of the Assistant Manager position is the assist the Terminal Manager in the full range of duties and responsibilities involved in the management of the facility, to provide backup coverage when the Terminal Manager is out or unavailable, to gain a more in-depth knowledge and understanding of both the operational and administrative responsibilities; develop and exhibit the necessary leadership, analytical/decision making and managerial skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •

Complete understanding of Watco Foundation Principals with the ability to foster and instill this thought process to other team members •
Manage all rail cars coming into and out of the facility as well as be responsible for day to day operations ensuring the shifts transition •
Ability to understand Watco Transload and Intermodal safety rules and regulations. To train and enforce these rules and regulations by efficiency testing, constant review of DOT rules and laws and by conducting safety meeting on specified topics. •
Constant review of quantity of inbound and outbound products; ensure excellent care and custody of product. •
Assist the Terminal Manager in the oversight of the operation with SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT being the highest priorities next to financial stewardship. •
Supervise staff. •
Lead, train and develop all team members. •
Must be available and flexible to work all shifts as business needs require. •
Fill in for Operators due to business levels when necessary. •
Ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellence. •
Be able to participate in customer meetings to build relationships. •
Maintain and develop safety culture among all team members. •
Ensure that team members receive the proper training to perform their jobs. •
Routine communication and coordination with other corporate departments. •
Complete all applicable documentation and recordkeeping. •
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. •
Completes team member evaluations, redirection, warning notices and recommends trained team members for staff positions. Keeps team trained in all areas. •
Fills in when needed in all areas of the operation •
Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; OR one to two years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; internet software and order processing systems.
