The Associate Chemist is responsible for performing the day-to-day activities in the laboratory working under prescribed procedures (protocols, standard operating procedures, methods, etc.) Performs experimentation on substances for such purposes such as environmental risk, physical/chemical properties, environmental fate, product and process development, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies. Assist in planning the conduct of a study. Monitors study procedures to ensure data accuracy and report quality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs progressively more complex procedures and experiments according to protocol and standard operating procedures, often concurrently.
May utilize new equipment and develop procedures and methods for solution of technical problems.
Adheres to a schedule of research according to ABC’s or contracting organizations timetable and establishes daily or weekly routines necessary to meet project timelines.
Handles regulated materials, (quarantined matrices, DEA controlled and radiolabeled materials, etc), potential biohazard matrices, and toxic chemicals according to company procedures and policies as required by the studies performed.
May serve as Study Director or Principal Investigator and train other staff on techniques required to perform job function(s) in accordance with all regulatory (i.e. EPA, FIFRA, and OECD) requirements.
Performs data evaluations and reviews the work of subordinates for accuracy and completeness.
May monitor and direct the activities of staff performing work in area of expertise.
Confers with other staff regarding research and prepares technical papers and reports.
Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry or related field with 1 year of comparable laboratory experience.
Master’s degree in biology or chemistry or related field.
Analytical instrumentation: HPLC, GC, LC/MS, Spectrometer, Particle Counter
Knowledge of the following equipment: diluter systems, meters, balances, drying ovens
Knowledge of GLP's
