Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field and two years of professional experience in computer programming and system analysis; OR a Bachelor’s degree and three year of such experience; OR seven years of such experience.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: Client/Server application development, Java, J2EE, PowerBuilder, relational database design and operation, Unix, Web services. Health-related experience a plus.
The incumbent will work with a team of programmers in the Bureau of Computer Systems Development, with personnel from the NYS Cancer Registry, and with IT staff at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the maintenance and further development of the Cancer Registry data system. This system receives and processes electronic data reports in several formats and through multiple interfaces. The responsibilities of programming staff include: the maintenance, development and enhancement of automated processes that receive, edit, and process electronically submitted cancer incidence records; the development of automated processes and PC based client server interfaces to review, correct and consolidate cancer reports; the development and enhancement of web based applications and processes to receive and incorporate data from new data sources; the continued enhancement of the operation and design of a large relational database and data warehouse; and other tasks as required.
The incumbent will assist in the development of change specifications, identification of schema changes, development and modification of application code, creation of test plans, performance of testing activities, and implementation of changes and enhancements. Other duties as assigned.
