STATUS: Full-Time, Salary Exempt SUMMARY: Manages up to 10 subordinate full-time manager/buyers and part time clerical help. Manages the purchasing of all product sold or rented in stores or on the web † including, and not limited to, apparel, gifts, computers and electronics, supplies, general books, and course materials. Responsibilities include strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting; identifying needs and being a change agent; working collaboratively with faculty and administrators on campus; working collaboratively with the operations group; working with the marketing manager to build marketing and promotions plans to achieve departmental sales goals; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; directing work and appraising performances; rewarding, coaching and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. . ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: -Responsible for $20+ million in annual sales and income; prepares and manages sales, rentals, income, expense budgets and financial reports for all buying units and locations.-Prepares financial projections and forecasts cost/benefits for new projects or products.-Manages and develops staff, including hiring, terminating, and disciplining of employees, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, coordinating training, and evaluating performance and directing work assignments.-Manages, plans, and oversees inventory controls including helping with supervision of year-end inventory and twice yearly randomized cycle counts.-Formulates pricing policies/strategies and approves pricing of items according to requirements for profitability.-Continuously creates and improves promotion and marketing of apparel and gifts, computer and electronics goods, textbooks, supplies, and general books in conjunction with marketing manager.-Works in conjunction with web store manager to make sure general merchandise and other product on the web is fresh and updated (www.shopaztecs.com).-Stays abreast of fashion trends and technology product trends.-Works closely with Visual Merchandiser for general merchandise space planning and presentation.-Develops communication timelines for athletics, alumni, faculty, and other campus groups for outreach on projects, course materials requisitions, and special orders.-Works with Divisional Director to develop new course materials sales models by identifying student and faculty needs and being solution oriented.-Works to increase student achievement and to lower course material pricing.-Stays informed of current industry trends and is able to intelligently converse with faculty and campus administrators about the education industry.-Is familiar with Blackboard and the University Library and the roles they play in course content development and related copyright issues.-Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel.-Utilizes existing IT tools, including Visual Ratex, to attain efficient, profitable and successful department operations.-Oversees satellite purchasing as it relates to off-site athletic event sales, second campus, and special events. -Evaluates vendors on an ongoing basis and seeks better purchasing and contract terms.-Works closely with Industry Organizations (including NACS and CRA)-Manages unit to ensure proper procedures and guidelines are in place and followed for provision of quality products and services.-Directs and manages project development in conjunction with the Divisional Director as well as other departments.-Resolves customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.-Develops strategies to address customer survey results and feedback.-Remains current on changes within the regulatory, economic and competitive environment which may affect the operations of the unit.-Responsible for ensuring continued compliance with all local, state and federal health, safety and employment laws and regulations.-Researches, formulates, and recommends new or upgraded policies and procedures.-Other duties as assigned.
