Job Summary/Basic Function
Provides campus leadership and services to ensure that students and visitors with disabilities have equal access to opportunities available at Ivy Tech Community College in compliance with state and federal disability legislation. Provides campus leadership and services in the area of career and employment services that include career advising, developing and implementing employment-related programs; assisting in the expansion of employer relations activities with an emphasis on assisting graduates and students in the career search; assisting in student success- related areas.
Develop and implement processes and procedures that provide students with disabilities equal access to information, educational opportunities and related activities available at the College. Develop and maintain relationships with local disability service providers, such as Vocational Rehabilitation Services and area post-secondary special education teachers. Review official medical/psychological reports provided by students and maintain required disability documentation. Assist students with disabilities to identify their needs, as well as authorize appropriate and effective accommodations. Communicate and coordinate as needed with faculty and staff to make any special arrangements regarding these accommodations. Provide compliance information and disability awareness education to faculty and staff members concerning their responsibilities under ADA and other disability legislation. Provide guidance to the DSS Technical Assistant in evaluating resources and assessing assistive technology needs for students with disabilities. Recruit, train and supervise resource people who provide certain auxiliary aids to students with disabilities. Coordinate and provide career advising for new and current students. Deliver class presentations and workshops on issues related to career exploration, career planning, career development, and resume preparation. Provide career counseling for undecided students. Advise students and alumni regarding career options and effective job-seeking procedures and techniques. Refer candidates to specific employers when appropriate. Promote and/or develop appropriate career-related job fairs. Conduct all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), HIPAA (National Standards to Protect the Privacy of Personal Health Information), ADA and other legislated privacy guidelines. The above listed functions require various degrees of independence, judgment and discretion and the ability to be mobile in the office and/or work area.
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience demonstrating leadership qualities preferred.
Masters degree preferred with five (5) years of experience in a related field.
