McGraw-Hill Education , the leading provider of digital and print educational materials is looking for an Associate Editor (Project Status) for high school Social Studies with a specialization in Advanced Placement (AP) programs. This individual will assist in the planning and development of digital and print instructional materials for high school Social Studies programs. This position is part of the School Education Group located in Columbus, OH.
Assist in the planning and development of instructional materials, both for digital and print products, including textbooks, websites, worksheets and tests, interactive whiteboard activities, videos, podcasts, teacher lesson plans, storyboards for digital assets, and other print and digital materials.
Develop and edit manuscript for content, pedagogy, accuracy, user experience, reading level, grammar, style, and alignment with learning objectives and curriculum requirements.
Conduct quality assurance testing of digital assets within a variety of authoring tools, digital platforms, and applications; copyedit page proofs in print or using Adobe InCopy.
Identify problem areas in content and recommend solutions.
Assist in the development of project schedules, and maintain and meet all intermediate and final schedules; inform project editor or editorial manager if circumstances prevent meeting deadlines.
Coordinate and oversee the work of outside freelancers or vendors to provide supplemental editorial assistance.
Work closely with marketing, production, design, and manufacturing to ensure that market requirements, project schedules, and goals are met.
Must be detail oriented and able to edit a variety of materials both online and in print in a timely manner.
Communicate with fellow team members about project progress, and develop solutions to address issues.
Work as a team player to meet all intermediate and final schedules.
Content knowledge in a major social studies field: US History, World History, World Geography, Economics, or Government/Civics.
A minimum of four years of editorial experience.
A minimum of three years of publishing experience.
Ability to demonstrate outstanding communication skills which include a thorough command of the English language, spelling, writing and grammar.
Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and manage multiple projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Willingness to learn new digital skills, including how to edit and structure content and digital assets within online content management systems
Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced rapidly changing work environment.
Classroom teaching experience, preferably high school social studies.
Experience writing/editing instructional materials, lesson plans, assessment materials, or storyboards and specs for digital materials.
Experience writing/editing with InCopy/InDesign
Experience working with XML, HTML, and familiar with Web 2.0 and social networking applications.
Experience with digital authoring tools, content management systems, blogging software tools
