Position Available: Associate Educator - Bilingual Spanish Department: Early Childhood Family Education Work Hours: 30 hrs wk / 41 wks Application Deadline: 09/20/2013 FUNCTION: Assist licensed staff in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE). Provides Home Visiting to families with children birth-5, visits focus on parenting and child development. Provides interpretation for non-English speaking, limited English speaking and/or bilingual/bicultural families.

Independently implements a variety of student, family, community services and educational programs in support of district's school readiness and cultural diversity goals. Act as a liaison between the students, family, community, and the Early Childhood Education programs (ECFE, Screening and High Five.) QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Take and pass a Spanish Language Proficiency test as determined by passing score on the ACTFL evaluation screening.Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits, and/or AA degree in the area of Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Parent Education or area related to position assignmentBilingual in SpanishKnowledge of and experience with a home visiting modelTrained as PAT Home Visitor (or willing to be trained upon hire)Educational background to be able to assist site staff in the provision of education servicesKnowledge of, and experience with, cultural differences, which may affect non-English speaking children and their parentsKnowledge of, and experience with, the process of acculturation to American societyKnowledge of Early Childhood Family Education programsThe ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with parents and young childrenAttend mandatory Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within one year of being hired for the position and maintain a current expiration date on the CPI card by taking Refresher class annuallyTraining and experience in the use of computers and other technology equipmentAbility to work effectively in collaboration with othersAbility to act in a leadership role and independently initiate and follow through on tasks under minimal supervisionStrong organizational skills Preferred: Post-secondary coursework in education, child development, parent education or a related areaKnowledge of the programs and procedures of the Minneapolis Public SchoolsProven community collaboration in large urban environmentComputer experience to assist in collaboration with families, schools, and/or community ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential: Assist teaching staff in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans for children birth-5Provide interpretation for non-English speaking families in a class settingProvide translation of materials for parentsModel desired interaction behavior and help parents engage with their young children in activities.Work individually and in groups with young children in the classroom to guide them in their exploration and discoveryPrepare and maintain class materials, equipment and communal areas to ensure a safe, clean and healthy environmentShare observations of progress and concerns related to the development of children's strengths and needsParticipate as an integral part of a teaching teamProvide home visits focused on parenting strategies and child developmentAssist in program outreach activities as neededMeet District's standards for employee performance in attendanceParticipate in staff development/professional growth activities relevant to position responsibilities, Early Childhood Strategic Plan, and Professional Development Plan (PDP)Other duties as assigned Additional: Provide documentation/reports of work activities as requested.Perform related duties as assigned/requested Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Normal classroom environment; ability to manage student behavior with the physical capacity to work directly with and supervise students Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: School environmentAbility to lift up to 40 poundsAbility to sit, walk, and/or stand for extended periods of time, both indoors and outdoors SALARY: Local 59 ESP $17.94 per hour.
