The Associate Safety Science Head will manage the safety science staff of the Oncology Signaling Franchise group in South San Francisco (SSF) taking guidance and support from the Safety Science Global Head to whom he/she reports. The Associate Safety Science Head assists and supports the Safety Science Global Head in leading and directing Safety Science Leaders and Safety Scientists in a department within the SSF site and in co-coordinating and implementing an overall safety science strategy for the Oncology department. The Associate Safety Science Head, under the direction of the Global Head, supervises and manages a group of safety science leaders and scientists dedicated to safety contribution to projects including integrated signal prediction/detection, integrated safety management process, comparative benefit/risk (in collaboration with clinical and regulatory), leading their cross-functional Safety Teams for those products or topics of interest in the group allocated by the Global Head to the site. The Associate Safety Science Head will work with and be directed by the Global Head, Safety Science to ensure alignment within a department and the incorporation of Comparative Benefit-Risk concepts in the Oncology Therapeutic area strategy and product plans and their use throughout the development and commercial lifecycle of products assigned to the group to ensure their longevity.

Primary Responsibilities: Ensure proactive surveillance and monitoring activities (as directed by the Global Head) across the safety science group based at the site to ensure that Roche is aware of potential emerging safety issues and has developed strategies & action plans to prevent & mitigate risks. Under the guidance of the Global Head and where appropriate ensures the incorporation of Comparative Benefit-Risk concepts and their use throughout the development and commercial lifecycle to ensure the safety and longevity of all products in their group.Build and leverage the company’s and Product Development Safety’s influence with internal and external entities to create value for the Company (Genentech in US, Roche outside) (as directed by the Global Head).Who You Are Experience/Skills Required: Significant clinical experience in treating patients and significant experience in pharmaceutical industry (clinical development, drug safety, medical affairs)Previous experience at a management level in drug safety, clinical development or medical affairs, including in the evaluation and interpretation of scientific and clinical data. Credible knowledge of Safety Science across a breadth of therapeutic areas.Demonstrated experience of managing global pharmacovigilance activities, particularly in relation to issue management and signal detection and evaluation.Solid knowledge and understanding of US and EU pharmacovigilance regulatory requirements and general regulatory expectationsProven track record of proactive leadership success and a broad base of management skillsProven experience in managing a team of individuals located across a number of sites and in leading them to optimize their performance and contribution. Proven ability to coach and develop peopleAbility to interact with high level officials in Health Authorities and other policy makersEducation/Qualifications: MD with a specialty (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, or other relevant to the therapeutic specialty).

An additional degree (e.g. PhD, MBA, MSc, MPH) is a plus.Other (e.g. Travel)Willingness to undertake travel internationallyAbility to work effectively across cultures and in virtual environment
