Associate/Full Professor in Curriculum and Instruction

The University of Northern Iowa’s College of Education is seeking an associate/full professor to join its Department of Curriculum and Instruction, with appointment beginning in the fall semester 2014. The department offers doctoral, masters, and undergraduate education programs. As a full-time faculty member, the successful candidate will meet all the requirements associated with Scholarship, Teaching, and Service to the University, as well as complement and expand the work of our current Elementary Science Education faculty.
Responsibilities include developing and teaching an Elementary STEM course, working collaboratively with UNI departments inside and outside the college to develop new courses and enhance existing courses to satisfy the new state STEM endorsement and/or create a STEM certificate program for elementary and middle school teaching majors, providing leadership in elementary STEM education in the Curriculum and Instruction Department and becoming fully engaged in UNI’s STEM education efforts, as well as establishing ties and exploring collaborations with the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council. Additional responsibilities include obtaining outside funding to enhance elementary STEM education at UNI, contributing scholarly work through professional writing and publishing in elementary STEM education, and engaging in and coordinating collaborative efforts designed to enhance STEM outreach in local K-8 schools. Responsibilities also include serving on thesis and dissertation committees and organizing and conducting the Annual Education Summit.
PhD or EdD in science education, curriculum and instruction or a related field required.
The successful candidate must have an earned rank of associate or full professor; an established record of professional presentations and publications associated with rank; an established record of successful grant writing and grant administration in the STEM field; an established record of exemplary teaching; and an established record of experience working with PK-8 STEM outreach, STEM programming and/or STEM professional development.
Preference will be given to those candidates with a minimum of five years of elementary or middle school science teaching experience and who demonstrate active participation in professional organizations related to STEM.
