This associate is the SME responsible for identification and analytical quantification using vibrational spectroscopy (infrared, UV-Visible, and Raman), together with microscopy and chemical imaging, to solve business-critical R&D challenges and facilitate elevation of Vision Care development projects to confirmatory. Application of spectroscopic techniques and expertise to DoE and investigational samples in partnership with Project Teams e.g. Pioneer and Cobalt. Application of spectroscopic techniques and expertise toward the identification of unknowns, contaminants, and impurities to solve scale-up and process optimization challenges. Development of alternative (spectroscopic) gauges for raw material, intermediate, and / or final product samples for prediction and / or confirmation of product properties e.g. water content or oxygen permeability in SiHy formulations and lenses. The gauges would not only provide improved methodology for product release and validation testing, but could also be implemented further upstream in the manufacturing process, potentially enabling earlier release decisions. Advanced data analysis to determine relationships between results from orthogonal but complementary analytical methods; e.g. spectroscopic and chromatographic to determine their relationship to macroscopic material properties such as modulus or ion permeability. Spectroscopic and microscopic (SEM and light microscopy) characterization of LS-based lenses (including ex vivo and deposit analysis) and LS molds (including alternate mold materials). Spectroscopic and microscopic SEM and light microscopy characterization of DSM (i.e. Cobalt) lenses, including ex vivo, clear layer and pigment analysis. Spectroscopic investigations of water gradient durability for IPC platform lenses. Development of gauges related to Pioneer pre-POC testing of polymer synthesis kinetics and reaction completion (including in situ reaction monitoring), polymer synthesis intermediates, polymers, IPC pre-reaction products/residuals, raw materials and formulations, including DOEs and other process optimization activities.

Minimum requirements
B.S. degree in Chemistry or Materials Science M.S. degree in Chemistry or Materials Science preferred. Fluency in English essential 4 or more years of laboratory experience working in cross-functional teams in industrial medical device R&D. cGxP experience Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word; excellent technical writing skills. 4 or more years hands-on experience with near and mid-infrared, UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopies. Additional experience with optical and electron microscopies. Experience in other analytical disciplines (i.e. HPLC and GC) desirable. Proficient in basic statistics, with experience in principal component analysis and design of experiments.
