The Associate University Librarian reports to the Dean and is responsible for advancing the vision of and providing an innovative and user-centered approach to Library programs, collections, services, initiatives and policies. This position will collaborate with the Dean of the Library.

Essential Functions

Provide leadership in creating and sustaining an organizational culture that embraces learning and growth through risk and experimentation. Participate as a senior administrator in the overall management of the Library. Provide operation leadership for library departments based on experience and skills. Provide operation leadership for library departments based on experience and skills. Serve on the University Library Deans Council and the Library Executive Team. Develop, evaluate, and implement library policies to carry out the mission of the Library and the strategic agenda of the university. Participate in library-wide budgetary decisions. Advocate for library initiatives through collegial working relationships with faculty and administrators of the University. Supervise and evaluate librarians and archivists and provide them with professional development opportunities, motivation and leadership. Establish job standards for those reporting to the Associate Dean and effectively evaluate these staff members. Prepare timely reports for the Library staff to review. Participate in library planning, serve on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan, in conjunction with the Dean, and ensure that the Library is meeting the mission of the University. Plan, promote, and assess Library services in support of the teaching and learning processes. Develop the Library services to more effectively meet the present and future needs of the campus community we serve. Maintain current knowledge of new developments in the library field Represent the Dean and the unit, as requested, on library and university committees and at local, regional, and national professional meetings (may require evening and/or weekend availability) Lead special projects. Participate in library development.

Required qualifications

Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution. Documented history of risk-taking and innovation in development of library or academic programs, spaces, collections or services. 3 years of experience in developing student programs, services, and outreach. 3 years of project or functional leadership experience in an academic library. Experience developing successful campus partnerships. Marketing experience, preferably in a university or library setting. Commitment to and experience developing staff. Record of professional presentations, scholarship and professional service. Strong leadership and communication skills. Proven commitment to diversity. Ability to work collegially as a team member and to promote teamwork among colleagues. Ability to work independently with initiative. Must promote and display the UT Arlington Library core values: Transparency, Learning and Growth, Flexibility, Collegiality and Innovation.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with library space renovation. Experience in diverse library roles offering a variety of perspectives. 5+ years of experience in an academic library and experience in library development.
