Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President for University Relations – Alumni and Parents. This full-time, 12-month position reports to the Vice President for University Relations and is responsible for engaging alumni and parents in the life of the University in ways that develop support for the University’s Core Purpose and strategic goals.
Primary Duties include : setting the strategic direction for engaging alumni and parents; provide lead staff support for The Association of Southwestern University Alumni, Alumni Council and Alumni Assembly; manage the planning and implementation of events and programs in support of strategic goals; manage the training and coordination of alumni volunteers; supervise Alumni and Parent Relations staff and student work/study assistants; oversee alumni and parent communications; manage web content as part of an integrated marketing and communication plan in support of alumni and parent engagement, including measures of ROI; maintain a collaborative partnership with the University Relations offices of Gifts and Communications, along with other University departments, to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to building and maintain constituent relationships; administer assessments to measure progress relative to goals, and propose adjustments to accommodate varying feedback, requirements, resources and priorities; monitor budget and make necessary adjustments to provide quality programs on time and within budget; respond to alumni requests and life events through written correspondence or by phone; coordinate alumni cultivation with the AVP of University Relations – Gifts; support the overall aims of the Institution by staffing Board of Trustees and University functions as required and attending University sponsored events and programs; participate in professional organizations and keep current on Alumni and Parent Relations issues and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for this position include a baccalaureate degree in Public Relations or a related field; seven years of professional experience in alumni, public relations, or development programs in an institution of higher education in progressively more responsible positions, including five years of supervisory/management experience or seven years related experience in non-education industry coupled with volunteer activities in an institution of higher education; demonstrate strong writing, speaking, and presentation skills; understand the operational computing needs of an integrated database constituent file; experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software in a PC environment; possess integrity, flexibility, attention to detail, and an affable nature; possess proven supervisory and management skills; demonstrate leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; willingness to adhere to the University’s core values; knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community; demonstrate professional manner with all internal and external University constituents; ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product; possess proven ability to perform well in stressful situations; ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation; understanding and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty and ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
A Master’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field and Prior work experience in a small, liberal arts institution is preferred .
