The Associate Video Product Manager assists with leading the development of Video Lottery systems, products and product enhancements from both a business and technical requirements perspective. The incumbent also assists the Video Product Manager with the development of detailed product plans, the annual product plan, VLT and game selection, vendor support, technical features and applications, new equipment plans, and maintaining ongoing product operations.
This position works under general direction from the Video Product Manager. Decisions and recommendations are based on thorough knowledge of marketing and product management. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the Video Lottery program, including Video Lottery terminals, games and systems including an in-depth understanding of how the technologies integrate and function together. The work is guided by the Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative Rules, Lottery Policies and Procedures, and Lottery Strategic, Business and Marketing Plans.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
1) *Apply Lottery Management Core Values and Expectations in performing daily activities, and in behavior toward coworkers, vendors and customers.
2) *As Assigned: Lead the development and implementation of new Video Lottery products, product enhancements, features and applications.
Facilitate and collaborate with cross-organizational teams in the development, planning and implementation of new products, product enhancements, features and technical product applications. Determine business needs and work closely with I.T. resources to translate business needs into technical requirements. Coordinate necessary research activities and, in collaboration with the Research Team, provide recommendations for a market research and/or analysis plan to support product related recommendations. Draft detailed product development plans and business cases to support recommendations. Work closely with QA staff to oversee product approval. As directed, participate in the contract preparation and negotiation process. Assist in developing contract management plans and ensure deliverables are provided in accordance with the contract. Lead and participate in product related discussions regarding projects, contracts, budgets and vendor related communications.
3) *Assist the Video Product Manager with leading the development and implementation of the Video Lottery Product Plan.
Lead the development and drafting of the annual Video Lottery Product Plan. Draft detailed plans related to VLTs, games, systems, etc., including schedules. Coordinate with other product team members to ensure the plan represents team input. Assist with the development and documentation of budgeted costs and cost projections. Support the Video Product Manager by developing in-depth business case documentation and recommendations for the product line. Monitor compliance with vendor contracts and technical requirements. Remain current on industry trends related to gaming systems, applications, machines, games and game delivery mechanisms in order to participate in overall product strategy development and long term vision.
4) *Video Product Management Operations Support.
Assist and, when directed, represent the Video Product Manager in day-to-day operations. Facilitate, attend and participate in meetings. Within the Video Product group, provide direction on the day-to-day work of other team members by delegating tasks and reviewing results. Facilitate and guide team members in the completion of team duties and train team members on new tasks. Represent team ideas, facilitate problem solving, document and share team concepts. Present a positive attitude when working with team members on transformation concepts and change management. Ensure proposed product rules, terms and conditions are accurate.
5) *Coordinate ongoing product-related operations.
Plan and coordinate meetings and communications as needed. Ensure team members are appraised on product related projects, research activities, business plans and other information as requested by the Video Product Manager. Monitor gaming system operations, including changes and upgrades. Ensure product communications on promotions and other key initiatives are communicated to stakeholders in a timely manner. Coordinate with other Lottery departments. Respond to inquiries and resolve problems. Assist the Video Product Manager with the development of policy and administrative rules. Lead assigned projects.
6) *Independently and through cross-organizational teams, develop and present gaming product related information.
Using research or other business knowledge, develop presentations that could be delivered independently or integrated into larger organizational presentations. Deliver presentations to small and large groups. Ensure the information and delivery is concise and appropriate for the audience.
7) *Assess retail and product activities.
Through retail visits and field ride-alongs, assess product presence in retail locations. Determine product opportunities, strengths, weaknesses and threats. Based upon industry knowledge, develop concepts and plans to overcome barriers and strengthen product market presence.
8) *Monitor product success.
Report on sales and profitability. Recommend adjustments. Assist with product analysis, including analysis on the effectiveness of new product launches and enhancements. Coordinate product-specific market research projects. Prepare written reports on various trends for use in making policy decisions and recommendations.
9) *Participate in special projects as needed.
The Associate Video Product Manager is the key point of contact for all issues related to the product line. The incumbent interacts with vendors and all levels of Lottery employees, other government employees, Lottery employees from other states, retailers and the public. The incumbent must be able to communicate product plans and foster cooperation and buy-in across organizational lines and gaming industry organizations such as standards associations and testing labs.
Work is generally conducted in an office environment. Extensive use of a telephone and computer is required. May require occasional long distance driving, overnight travel, air travel, and extended travel (3 days or more) for job related purposes. May also require working extended hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
GAMING INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED
A Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Product Management, Computer Science, or Engineering, or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional level product management experience focused on product execution; OR
Six (6) years of professional level product management experience with three (3) of those years focused on product execution.
Related experience must include technology, such as systems, game or software technologies that relate to the development and implementation of products or services. Experience must also include presentation and implementation of marketing plans, developing and delivering oral presentations to diverse groups of people, and leading project teams or managing staff.
Skill in understanding software, systems or gaming technologies from both a business and technical perspective.
