The job of Associate, Corporate Business Development is to support the ongoing activity of the firm in identifying and executing strategic transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures of non-core businesses. The position involves a significant level of interpersonal interaction with constituents in all parts of the organization, so communication skills are extremely important. As the firm is engaged in a number of strategic activities, both large and small, the candidate needs to be highly organized and comfortable multitasking. Spreadsheet skills and financial analysis experience are requirements of the position. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate a high level of initiative and willingness to assume personal responsibility for his or her assignments. The candidate will report directly to the SVP, Corporate Business Development. Detailed Description
The role of the Corporate Business Development function at Sensata is to ensure that all strategic activity of the firm is managed and moving forward in an efficient manner. For the Associate position, this encompasses a wide range of day-to-day activities, which fall into the following general areas:
Monitor strategic landscape to enable Sensata to be proactive in the market place. Map acquisition opportunities against strategic objectives, as defined by the business leadership Track new company formation in target markets Keep current on relevant strategic and technology developments Maintain tracking database for all incoming deal flow Update valuation models based on best practices
Evaluate strategic opportunities to ensure consistency with Sensata’s strategic roadmap Identify and contact appropriate business line managers to solicit input Interface directly with target-company management teams, investors and, when necessary, their advisors Participate in meetings and internal discussions regarding strategy setting as well as potential and live strategic activity
Manage transactional process to provide the best outcome for Sensata Identify, marshal and coordinate necessary resources from across business lines and functional organizations Drive the due diligence process to evaluate potential targets and identify areas of risk and opportunity Build financial models and perform financial analysis to determine valuation parameters and assess economic impact to Sensata Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred 3-5 years of financial analysis experience preferably in the investment banking or M&A fields Market analysis and project management experience preferred Strong analytical and organizational skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated attention to detail, initiative and problem solving skills Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in areas of responsibility Additional Details
The candidate will be expected to take on a project leadership role, with expanded responsibilities as he or she gains transactional experience. The position provides a broad level of exposure at senior levels throughout the organization, functionally and geographically, as well as with the financial sponsors who constitute the primary shareholders in Sensata. As part of a small group of corporate development professionals in the firm, the candidate will be a key member of the team and relied upon to drive strategic activity across the company.
