Provide legal advice and guidance to key company management and tax personnel, while becoming an integral advisor to the U.S. based businesses.
Analyze applicable U. S. federal and state tax legislation and represent the interests of Novartis thru lobbying and other external affairs initiatives. Identify, research and analyze tax issues and planning opportunities for the affiliated group.
Research international tax issues and assist in advising on intercompany transfer pricing matters; work on intercompany transfer pricing compliance projects.
Provide legal advice and assistance to tax compliance and audit functions and assist with and represent Novartis on IRS as well as state tax audits and appeals.
Make frequent contact with associates at various levels of the affiliate companies to explain, examine, and exchange information and advice regarding tax matters and projects.
Work closely with deal teams on structuring acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, divestitures, and licensing projects for various Novartis business units.
Perform special projects and assignments as required. Minimum requirements J. D., LL.M. in Taxation a plus but not required, admission to the Bar, plus a minimum of 8-10 years experience in corporate tax work.
Experience should be acquired in law firm, large public accounting firm or corporation.
Proven ability to handle confidential information with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
Demonstrates a positive attitude and initiative in an ever changing environment. Must be highly organized, skilled in oral and written communication, flexible, work well under rigid time pressures, and be willing and able to continuously improve tax and technical skills through education and acceptance of new assignments.
