Assist the Swimming Pool Coordinator and in his/her absence assume all duties in the following; under direction, to organize and direct a diversified program of recreational swimming, water sports and swimming instructions; to supervise lifeguards and others operating and maintaining municipal swimming pool; and to do related work as required.

Examples of Duties:

Assign and schedules staff to provide adequate coverage during operating hours; monitors in service training; maintain surveillance of swimming and diving areas to prevent mishaps; assists swimmers from water when in difficulty; applies resuscitation and administers first aid treatments; enforces swimming pool regulations; monitors swimming instruction classes to determine adequacy of instruction and improvement of students; mentors lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities; interface with partons regarding concerns, problems, teaches swimming, collects fees and handles funds; keep various financial and service records.

Typical Qualifications:

Education and Experience - Any combination equivalent to two years of college and four years of experience as a lifeguard or swimming instructor.

Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of pool operation including plant and program; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions needed for safe swimming pool operation; ability to organize a comprehensive activities program; ability to teach swimming lessons; ability to deal tactfully with the general public.

Supplemental Information:

Certifications Required - American Red Cross Lifeguarding or YMCA Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
