Ensure compliance with North Carolina Revenue laws by employing professional auditing principles and practices in examination of taxpayers’ accounting records and tax reports. Conduct advanced and specialized field auditing work in all North Carolina tax schedules with emphasis on corporate income, franchise and sales and use tax of businesses located outside the state. Further emphasis is placed on Fortune 500 corporations and other large-sized entities. Some overnight travel is required. (Pay Supplemental Adjustment-PSA 59%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal tax issues, auditing and accounting theories and principles; ability to perform complex, specialized audits. Three years of demonstrated experience performing independent examination and analysis of complex corporate returns, records, financial statements, and systems for accuracy, completeness and conformance to statutes and rules. Ability to justify and defend audit findings. Extensive technical expertise in working with large complex (Fortune 500) taxpayers. Ability to communicate comprehensive information on matters of complex nature in a concise manner.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or discipline related to the program area, with a minimum of eighteen (18) credit hours of accounting coursework ; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

NOTE: The NC Department of Revenue (NCDOR) has a career banding compensation plan which encourages and rewards competency development. Recruitment for this position will target the advanced level of the Auditor class. Salary range will be commensurate with the applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity and labor market conditions. For recruitment purposes, this position is considered to be equivalent to salary grade 78.
