Automation Engineer - Quantitative Operations

The Climate Corporation is looking for Automation Engineers to join our Quantitative Operations Team in San Francisco and Seattle. We leverage big data and cloud computing to tackle real-world problems in machine learning, climatology, and risk management. We work with weather data, forecasts, agricultural statistics, geological surveys, satellite images, and more. Our extraordinary mission is to build a detailed statistical model of all possible weather events everywhere on Earth, so that every weather risk can be comprehensively managed with our insurance products.

As an Automation Engineer on the Quant Ops Team, you will be responsible for end-to-end automation and test-driven development of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant computational pipelines. You will work closely with researchers and product managers to continuously test and improve the scalability, reliability, and quality of the core algorithms that underlie our products.

Responsibilities:
Lead the statistical validation and backtesting of machine learning algorithms and data products

Define test strategies and prepare test plans/procedures from product requirements

Advocate and enforce rigorous QA review and test-driven development practices

Set up and maintain cloud-hosted continuous integration systems

Create and maintain automation tools and test harnesses in a fast-paced, iterative development environment

Work with developers to investigate complex problems in our service-oriented architecture

Report, track, and re-test defects to ensure issues have been resolved

Requirements:
Degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field

Experience with automation of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant computational pipelines

Solid programming background, including the xUnit family (JUnit, PyUnit), mock concepts, static analysis, testing frameworks, test-driven development

Experience with shell scripting and Python

Proficient in a Linux/Unix environment

Hands-on experience with both grey box and white box testing

Demonstrated passion for code quality and willingness to work closely with developers

Ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapid changes in product direction with tight deadlines

Detail oriented, organized, methodical and a good listener/communicator

Experience with Agile approaches and delivery

Bonus points:
Experience with Amazon Web Services

Experience with Hadoop/Cascading/Cascalog

Experience working with large-scale geospatial data (example: Google Earth), time-series data (example: high-frequency algorithmic trading), and/or recommendation engines (example: the Netflix Prize)
