Position summary: Produces content for Bright House Sports Network’s fishing department.
Produces assigned content and shows making decisions on story lineup, video/audio elements, graphics and timing to construct a show.
Shoots, edits and writes stories for an assigned content (show/program/event), ensuring content is factually correct and written in a clear and concise conversational style.
Verifies stories are written to the pictures being edited and/or vice versa.
Integrates on-air content with online content, adding links, video, images, multi-media elements.
Updates content on web site while complying with constant deadlines.
Works to maintain and administer site applications.
Follows through on all assignments meeting required deadlines according to the managing editor’s instructions.
Works with producers to create the content and the product.
Produces special programming as needed.
Performs editing and digitizing functions as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field or comparable television work experience and 3+ years’ experience in television sports or news preferred.
Strong broadcast news or sports writing.
Shooting, editing, and writing television news stories covering sports.
Knowledge of the outdoors and fresh and saltwater fishing a plus.
Planning: ability to anticipate situations, meet strict deadlines.
Interpersonal: has contact with media and general public with excellent collaboration skills with co-workers.
Knowledge of current events and industry trends.
Communication: demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English.
Computer: working knowledge of office computer; knowledge of non-linear editing systems a plus.
Pro-active with demonstrated enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news and high-stress situations.
Editing: basic editing skills.
Computer: Knowledge of HTML and broad-based computer applications is strongly preferred including basic knowledge of Photoshop.
Works inside in a climate controlled environment and/or on location in the field; may be subjected to various weather conditions that could include extreme heat or cold conditions.
Spends 25% of the time in the field on a boat, raft, kayak and outdoors.
Sits for long periods of time.
Requires long periods of personal computer use and telephone communications.
Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment.
Communicates in person, by telephone and by email.
Must be able to work under time pressure deadlines and willing and able to work different shifts or longer shifts due to “breaking sports news”.
Materials and equipment used: various studio and newsgathering television equipment, computers and computer-related equipment.
Talking, seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, stooping, handling, typing/keying, pushing and pulling.
May be required to lift up to 70 pounds.
Must be able to distinguish colors and discern sounds.
Must be willing to work in severe weather emergencies, such as hurricanes.
