The Group Leader (GL) is responsible planning and executing the educational program in accordance with the purpose and goals of Friendship Cares. They must ensure the development and safety of enrolled children in accordance with DCMR 29 Regulations and Friendship Cares policies and procedures. The GL is a part-time position based at the school site and reports directly the After-Care Coordinator.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, assisting, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Friendship Cares
  • Facilitating project-based activities focused in areas of Science, Math, and Technology
  • Planning and implementing appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the field of Art, Music, Reading, Science, etc.
  • Providing an inspiring, positive, energetic, caring and safe environment for children that reinforces positive social skills and creates a healthy and fun learning environment
  • Treating children with dignity and respect
  • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities for your classroom
  • Developing and maintaining an attractive and engaging environment that encourages children’s independence and self-selection of activities
  • Knowledgeable of student outcomes and monthly goals for every student
  • Knowledgeable of Friendship content standards
  • Ensuring the safety of all activities and of the overall environment
  • Contributing to a positive and healthy work environment
  • Actively engages in activities with the children
  • Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, maintaining current knowledge of early childhood practice
  • Conducting parent conferences on each child’s school adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress
  • Maintaining and working with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and development through progress records of each child’s growth and development, prepare periodic reports, and review with After-Care Coordinator and parents
  • Implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents
  • Communicating frequently with parents informally, with periodic notes and verbal communication as well as a Parent Letter at least monthly
  • Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers
  • Performing other duties as assigned with approval of Lead Teacher or After-Care Coordinator

Qualifications

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current child development and early childhood education theories and practices;
  • Proven experience maintaining clear boundaries and setting age appropriate discipline standards for children using non-punitive measures
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet

Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or General Education Certificate (GED)
  • 60 or more credit hours from an accredited college or university
  • A CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential
  • Minimal of one year of experience working in a regulated child care environment
