Perform daily coding and billing functions for billing office in accordance with rules and regulations established by the AMA and WestCare policy. R esponsible for accurately entering codes and charges for multiple specialties on a daily basis.

Must demonstrate proficiency in reviewing claims for accurate medical coding for diagnoses, procedures and services performed by physicians and licensed non-physician providers across a wide range of specialties which include: pulmonology, urology, OB-Gyn, Hospitalists and Pediatrics. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology commensurate with ability to review correct coding of provider services and diagnoses.

Must demonstrate sound knowledge of medical coding rules, modifier usage and regulations and the ability to communicate medical coding and reimbursement rule changes with management in a timely manner. Will work to resolve coding issues and is responsible for insuring that all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected and included in the patient's abstracted or demographic record.

The duties described herein are minimum standards and may be modified to meet the changing needs of WestCare Health System at any time.

Education : CPC – Certified Professional Coder – current certification required.

Must maintain current and active CPC status during employment.

Experience : Minimum of 2 years ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding experience in a physician's office or facility preferred.

Skills: Must have the ability to work independently, have good organizational and interpersonal skills, and be willing to adjust to meet different situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Eye and hand coordination, manual dexterity for computer and writing skills and visual acuity is required. Extended periods of time sitting will be required and bending and stooping may be required. Must be able to lift and move 5 pounds.

Working Environment:

WestCare Health System shall endeavor to make starting and quitting times as desirable and convenient as possible; however, the workload shall be the determining factors. Overtime should be expected.
