This position is located in the National
Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Disease (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Rocky
Mountain Veterinary Branch (RMVB), at the Rocky Mountain
Laboratories in Hamilton, Montana.

As a Biological Science Laboratory Technician
(Animal), you will be responsible for the daily care, observation and
monitoring of experimental animal colonies. Additionally, you will
perform the following duties and functions:
Prepare and monitor caging environments, including cage changing and provision of appropriate feed and water.
daily care, observation and monitoring/recording of the non-human
primate quarantine areas, resident colony and experimental animals.
Assist veterinarians and trained surgeons in the performance of laboratory animal surgery.
Provide technical support to investigators in laboratory animal facilities.
laboratory equipment/apparatuses such as pH meters, balometers,
laboratory centrifuges, pipetters, microscopes, electronic scales,
hematological analyzers and microchip animal identification systems.
accurate daily records on laboratory animal breeding, genetics, animal
disposition, animal health, individual cage cards, and all experimental
Basic Qualification Requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one
(1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS- 6
level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public
sector, performing the following types of tasks: monitoring animal
health; making and recording close observations of animals; handling
animal caging equipment; maintaining records of animal health procedures
and results; administering anesthesia and monitoring post-surgical
animal conditions; maintaining animal colonies; and taking samples of
fluids and tissues.
Have 1 year of graduate level education that
included courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology,
animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least
12 semester hours of courses are directly related to this position .
Have a combination of graduate level education
and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for
this position .
