• Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, clinical epidemiology, health services research, economics or a related field with 1 to 3 years of experience.
• One-two year’s work-related experience in clinical epidemiology or health services research. Some knowledge of clinical epidemiology and health services research concepts and health service delivery.
• Statistical expertise in programming of common statistical methods in medical and clinical related research
• 3+ years experience in BASE SAS, SAS/SQL, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH and SAS MACROs with problem-solving skills
• Familiar with database utilization in statistical analysis, like MS Access, FileMaker Pro, Oracle, MS SQL server
• Familiar with both UNIX system and Windows OS system
• Familiarity with administrative healthcare data is preferred.
• High-level of personal initiative; ability to work independently as well as collaborate in teams and with people from all business areas
• Strong written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly
• Detail-oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills

Job Description:
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.
The Research Institute invites data analysts with training and experience in biostatistics, statistics or clinical epidemiology to apply for a Programmer/Analyst position in the Healthcare Analytics Unit (HAU). The HAU serves as a resource for Hospital investigators using administrative data to address research questions by providing expertise in analysis data creation, statistical programming, advanced analysis, study design and sample size calculation. The HAU is a core service unit of two centers in the CHOP Research Institute -- the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) and PolicyLab. CPCE consists of a group of multidisciplinary faculty and staff who perform clinical epidemiology, health services, and community-based research to elucidate best practices in the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of pediatric disease. PolicyLab researchers are methodological experts in the disciplines of epidemiology, health services research, program evaluation, and ethics.The Programmer/Analyst position requires the ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary research team and to provide consultative support to senior leadership.
The primary projects on which the analyst will work relate to specific disease entities and health care utilization in children including, but not limited to, infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, mental health problems, access to care, and population-based policy analysis. Analyst duties include managing and manipulating large administrative and survey data (including insurance claims, hospital electronic medical records, and panel surveys), statistical programming in SAS or STATA; learning and applying new statistical theory and techniques for ongoing projects or proposals; conducting statistical analyses; and supporting the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. The analyst will work closely with senior statisticians in developing analytic plans and applying new and existing statistical methods.
