Boiler Operator / Power Plant Operator

Qualified Candidate Requirements:
  • Valid Minnesota Chief "A" Boiler's License
  • Ability to multi-task
  • 5 years of experience operating power plant equipment including high-pressure steam boilers and turbine generators
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of Steam Plant Systems
  • Good attitude, ability to work well with others
  • High school diploma or equivalent i.e.: GED
  • 2 years of experience leading and directing the work of others
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the position
  • Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Thorough knowledge of the operations of a cogeneration power plant
  • Should have an analytical mind to be able to solve problems of both a technical and operational nature
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels, both inside and outside the Department
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions
  • Desire to advance within the power plant industry
Responsibilities include:
  • Relieving positions of Operator II, Operator I, and Fireman
  • Performing job duties including but are not limited to those which are described in the position guide for the position which the Relief Operator is relieving (Operator II, Operator I, and Fireman)
  • Performing other related work as assigned
  • Participates in and may be required to direct with plant operation, maintenance and repair of high pressure steam boilers, generators, pumps, turbines, exciters, compressors, and related equipment
  • Participates in and may be required to assign and direct with minor repair of plant machinery and equipment, reporting any need for major maintenance and making or directing repairs in emergency situations
  • Keeps accurate record of temperature, loads, correlation of steam pressures and electric load, steam flows, and water analyses
  • Maintains constant attention to overall operation of Plant
  • May be required to direct the activities of power plant personnel during their shift (Operator II)
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
  • May be asked to work extra shifts or callouts.
