The University: Norfolk State University is a fully-accredited comprehensive urban institution founded in 1935. The University is located in the Hampton Roads area in the city of Norfolk, Virginia and is one of 15 public four-year institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. NSU has approximately 7,100 students, 1,100 faculty and staff, five academic colleges/schools, has a yearly operating budget exceeding $100 million and is the largest historically black college or university in Virginia, and the 7th largest in the nation. In recent years, NSU has enhanced its infrastructure to include six new campus buildings including a 21stcentury Library as well as improvements to campus technology.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Budget Director oversees the development, implementation and administration of the University's operating budget. In addition, this position provides support in the development of the University's tuition and fees and prepares special reports, studies and analyses as required. The Budget Director oversees a staff and serves as a senior member of the University's financial management team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and visionary leader with a demonstrated commitment to Finance and Administration; a proven record of inspiring and leading staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or similar area or a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or similar area with higher education management experience; several years of progressively responsible financial management and/or budget experience, preferably in a large, complex institution of higher education or large complex governmental organization with multiple fund sources; experience preparing budget/financial planning models and summary budget materials, and demonstrated ability in financial analysis; strong planning, problem-solving, customer service and management skills, including the ability to coordinate staff commitment to excellence; strong computer and related skills, and experience with financial system applications, preferably web-based financial ERP applications; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to think in a progressive and collaborative manner with University stakeholder groups.
