The Building Services Technician is responsible for performing duties necessary for cleaning and maintaining assigned facilities. These duties constitute a combination of jobs which vary depending on the work schedule and areas assigned. The incumbent may be assigned to work in residence halls or education and general buildings on campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cleans assigned University facilities.
Collects and empties trashcans and ashtrays, cleans and disinfects them.
Dusts furniture and all other dust catchers.
Cleans and supplies restrooms.
Reports any necessary repairs of facilities.
Replaces light bulbs, cleans shades and vents.
Washes walls and stairs.
Vacuums three times per week.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, buffs, and waxes floors in assigned buildings or areas.
Sweeps entrance and removes snow and ice from sidewalks and steps.
Unclogs commodes and shower drains.
Scrubs and disinfects restrooms weekly.
Shampoos carpets on an annual basis.
Buffs assigned area on a set schedule.
Cleans all interior and exterior windows.
Removes cigarette butts from around entrances.
Adheres to all University policies and regulations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
The Building Services Technician is supervised directly by the Building Services Supervisor or the Building Services Superintendent. Work is reviewed on a regularly scheduled basis. This position interacts with faculty, staff, and students.
High school diploma/ GED equivalent or four years general work experience. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Good physical condition.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Custodial experience and additional education.
Heavy lifting and use of ladders required.
Overtime may be required for special events or emergencies. A variety of locations, conditions, and work schedules dependent on assignment.
