$18.00/hr through training. $21.15/hr upon completion of training.

We are currently seeking part-time Bus Operators to provide safe, reliable, and courteous public transportation services to our customers in the South San Francisco and/or San Carlos area.

Upon successful completion of the District’s extensive training program, Part-Time Bus Operators will safely operate a variety of transit vehicles in the provision of transportation services to the public per their scheduled route, and in all weather and road conditions. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a safety inspection of each assigned vehicle, reporting all defects immediately on the Vehicle Safety Report. The part-time Bus Operator will be responsible for safely transporting passengers along assigned routes; making designated stops in accordance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement; collecting proper fares; announcing stops; providing general information to riders; and providing professional and effective interaction and assistance to passengers. While on duty, the part-time Bus Operator must properly adjust mirrors and head signs, and operate computerized control panels, push button, door lever, and other manual and foot controls, as well as operate and communicate clearly over the District radio communications system. Will assist wheelchair patrons with positioning of wheelchair, and secure safety belts and safety devices to wheelchair on bus. Will read maps, frequency sheets, timetables, notices, and other District materials, as well as complete reports on passenger counts, vehicular deficiencies, accidents, incidents, service change requests, and other reports and forms as required.

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, plus effective written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations. Must be reliable and dependable. Must be able to professionally and effectively interact with passengers, the public, and fellow employees. Must possess a valid Class 'C' California Driver License with a good driving record at the time of application. Must be able to obtain and present a Class 'B' Commercial Driving Permit (with Passenger Transport Endorsement and Air Brakes) on the first day of employment.
