As our Business Development Director for the National Capital Region [WDC area], you will be chartered with building new business and expanding on existing relationships within the Federal Government market segment. Our company has supported Federal Government agencies since our founding in 1955, and our services are available through a variety of contract vehicles. This is a great opportunity for a leader who wants to grow the business by working with a team of practice area experts with significant experience in Federal Government solutions.
You should have a passion for meeting people, giving strategic presentations on the company’s core business to large and small groups, as well as a proven talent for identifying and developing new business relationships. You must have an affinity for calling on senior and executive-level decision makers to determine strategic goals and business plans. You should have a successful track record of lead generation and qualification, prospect development, and most importantly, closing deals. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President and General Manager, Business Development.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include:
Networking within the Federal Government community to identify potential new business opportunities.
Contacting and developing relationships with key decision-makers through phone calls and in-person visits.
Helping design a business strategy to obtain new clients, implementing the necessary tactics to gain their interest, personally meeting with prospective clients, and closing the sale.
Using established processes and tools to track and routinely update the status of prospects.
Providing a total vision regarding business opportunities. Conducting research that defines new markets and prospects, as well as customer needs the company might fulfill through new offerings.
Gathering intelligence to identify potential clients and/or team members and ensuring that all business opportunities are optimized using internal/external contacts.
Working with proposal team throughout proposal development lifecycle to transition customer knowledge into proposal development cycle.
Leading solution and strategy development from opportunity identification through contract award, including win themes, staffing, past performance, risk/weakness mitigation, teaming, and price to win.
Managing internal and external relationships and expectations to ensure successful bid efforts..
You must be a strategic thinker and objective decision-maker who can ascertain “real” business opportunities and the strategies needed to win them. You must demonstrate leadership abilities, be a results-oriented team player, and be a high-energy self-starter with a strong work ethic to handle diverse and demanding tasks under pressure. Proven track record of winning large prime Federal government contracts ideally in one of DRC’s growth markets: health, intelligence, homeland security, financial and regulatory agencies, cyber security, and priority defense programs.
Exceptional presentation and writing skills
Exceptional proposal development capability
Ability to construct profitable business relationships with other vendors.
Awareness of various contract types, their appropriate use and the various management techniques associated with each type
A history of and current relationships with federal agencies in DRC’s growth markets
Developing cost and technical contract proposals.
Negotiation skill in multiple contract environments
Experience in building bottom-up budgets and performing against budget guidelines while forecasting changes to the baseline budget.
Capture management to include strategizing how to pursue and win a selected opportunity.
