Business Development Manager – Financial Services

One of the world’s leading IT Consultancies is looking to recruit an Business Development Manager to their Financial Services (Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance, etc.) unit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The Business Development Manager usually works either within a defined geographical area or is given a set of named accounts to handle. The objective of the business development manager is to obtain new business within the jurisdiction defined. The BDM usually would report to a GCRM or Regional Manager.

The BDM would mainly be responsible for the following:
  • Ownership of the Sales process from suspect stage till it converts to a sale
  • Following up with prospects so that it can lead to a proposal. Assistance in the proposal stage
  • Post-proposal relationship maintenance with clients; Sourcing for additional business
  • Collections and responsibility for revenue earnings from specified set of clients
  • Manage local sales partners in the assigned geography to prospect and generate business

From the database of potential clients, the BDM has to take it one step further, and obtain an interest of the potential client in business. Towards this the BDM calls up the clients, identifies needs, showcases BBU / product capabilities, uses references and other means to get clients interested. At this stage sales partners are also extensively used. In case it is an existing client, then s/he identifies needs and opportunities for further business in consultation with the Implementation Manager and others from PSG. At this stage presentations are made to key executives in the target companies. Presentations can range from overview presentations (which the jobholder handles) to detailed multi day product demo sessions that are anchored by BCG. However, the jobholder provides the continuity to the business deal and the client perspective in all cases.

Assistance in Proposals

Once a client evinces interest, there is usually a RFP (Request for Proposal). The jobholder would help at this stage, in acting as a source of information to the team as well as coordination with the client as and when required. Even after an initial proposal has been made, it may go through several cycles of changes, modifications, negotiations etc. The jobholder is an interested party at all stages, and will participate in most of these activities.

Client Relationship and Collections

Even after the proposal has got converted to a project, the jobholder continues to own the client and maintain a relationship with the client. The implementation project management and post implementation project management and post implementation Account Management (from support perspective) is handled by PSG Project / Account Managers. However, the jobholder would continue to interface as and when required. Further all commercial transactions are routed through the jobholder, who is also responsible for all collections from the client and is targeted on the timeliness and extent of collections.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To follow up with potential clients leading to a sales presentation, demos or other sales opportunities
  • To assist the Sales and BCG teams at the stage of presentations and demonstrations etc., by representing the client point of view and acting as an interface
  • To maintain an ongoing and productive relationship with clients specially where the potential for business is high
  • To ensure revenues and collections are as per target
  • To manage the local sales partners and source business through them
