Corning is a market leader in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for indoor wireless coverage and capacity enhancement. With the explosive growth in wireless bandwidth demand (~100% CAGR) and shift to indoor usage ( >80%), there is a strong need for solutions that deliver flexible and scalable wireless services to the enterprise and carrier marketplace. Small cells, which can include all types of distributed radio sources, are emerging as important tools in the delivery of network capacity. We believe that these technologies will be an important part of future networks and are therefore seeking a small cell industry veteran, with both business development and network technology credentials, to help develop and execute our strategy. The role reports to the VP, Strategy and Business Development.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide significant leadership in refining and executing a global strategy for small cell convergence with our wireless enablement platform. Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on Radio Access Network (RAN) and Small Cell technologies with emphasis on the networking and digital processes (as opposed to RF) including features, functionality, protocols, core interfaces, and interoperability standards, etc. Act as the SME regarding the ecosystem of industry participants including OEMs, chipset vendors, software vendors, etc. and will be responsible for facilitating business development activities with the industry. Be responsible for working with our Chief Architect and the technology and product management organizations to finalize our differentiated and value added strategy, roadmap and product concepts; to identify, develop, and execute industry partnerships to prove concepts and to ultimately develop final solution(s). Keep abreast of industry and academic trends to anticipate Corning’s needs in small cell convergence. Represent Corning externally via presentations at conferences and other industry events.
Travel Requirements (please note if international): 15% - 30% travel; some global travel required
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours
Location: Flexible; Main Facilities are in Vienna VA, Hickory NC, Tel Aviv Israel
Required Education: MS in relevant engineering field required, MBA desired
Required Years and Area of Experience: 10 years of experience in relevant fields and functions
Expertise in cellular 3G/4G small cell radio technologies and architectures Expertise in the challenges facing wireless networks including the proliferation of small cell/HetNet and related technologies such as SON, synchronization, etc. Knowledge of relevant market, technology and product trends Knowledge of and high level relationships with leading industry participants Entrepreneurial spirit and broad perspective to problem definition and solving in order to create truly differentiated solutions Self starter and motivation to define what needs to be done and then execute Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills to develop and articulate solution value propositions internally and externally to C-level audiences Strong analytical and computer skills
Knowledge of WiFi networking technologies and architectures Knowledge of DAS technologies and architectures Knowledge of user interface and applications software requirements
