The primary purpose of this position is to provide expert leadership and understanding in the analytical, technical, computer system, financial, communication, and business process support for PPL’s major Business Intelligence initiatives. Will act as a liaison between Business Intelligence team and business units to provide analytical support and consulting on complex projects to ensure reporting requirements are clearly documented and understood during the design and development phases of the project. Supports the analysis and solution of the most complex business and financial analysis related problems during application development and normal operations. May participate in strategic planning for a PPL Business unit, particularly in the implementation of Business Intelligence reporting to solve business problems.

Position provides key participation in the project life cycle including design, development, testing, and deployment of Business Intelligence solutions independently or working with project teams. Assists in the analysis, preparation, and presentation of business data which may include financial statements, budgets, and reports.

Primary Responsibilities

Business analyst with Business Intelligence and data warehousing expertise to assist with project implementations, report and dashboard development, production support, and process improvements across multiple business areas in the energy industry. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides expert knowledge and leadership regarding PPL's business intelligence and reporting tools. Responds to customer and business analyst questions on the use of technology tools, hardware and software.
  • Act as liaison between PPL’s Business Intelligence Team and PPL business end users, helping to manage major business intelligence projects including custom development of new BI solutions and targeted modification and integration of existing systems.
  • Leads business requirements gathering process, facilitates interviews and meetings with cross-functional team members to elicit requirements, document current state and future state business processes as required including the creation of associated deliverables.
  • Assists business team in test planning activities such as developing test scenarios and test scripts and test execution for development projects.
  • Working with project management teams, performs a full range of project management activities including development of project plans, cost/benefit analysis, work estimating, project oversight/leadership, project methodology and progress reporting.
  • Builds partnerships with PPL business customers to gain a clear understanding of their business needs. Collaborates with vendors, consultants, business, and ISD personnel to design and implement solutions that achieve desired results, meeting identified business needs, and solve problems. Accurately translates business requirements into system functionality.
  • Creates clear and compelling business cases.
  • Assists the Supervisor or Lead Business Systems Analyst with planning, directing, and reviewing the day-to-day work of other team members. Also assists with training ISD and/or business customer staff regarding technical and business issues.
  • From time to time, leads or participates on special projects or teams to resolve business issues and implement appropriate solutions.
  • May function as a non-supervisory technical group lead directing and guiding the work of one or more business analysts below the senior level.

    Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

    Basic Qualifications

  • BA degree with 5 to 7 years of relevant IT experience or High School diploma with 7 to 9 years of relevant IT experience.


  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a business intelligence reporting tool such as MicroStrategy, Pentaho, Cognos, Oracle Discoverer, SQL Server Reporting Services, Tableau, or Business Objects is a plus.
  • Masters degree in a business area, engineering, computer science, or finance, or MBA. Equivalent work experience considered.
  • Professional Certification in a technical or business area.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate information systems and business processes.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office tools.
  • Ability to present ideas in a concise and focused manner.
  • Ability to accurately translate business requirements into system functionality.
  • Project Management experience a plus.
