Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required; Masters preferred Minimum 5-7 years of experience in banking and/or public accounting required CPA preferred Strong knowledge of US GAAP required. Specifically, candidate must be well-versed in accounting matters related to consumer finance activities. Knowledge of enterprise risk management best practices preferred. Management experience required, including demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, thoroughly review the work of others, and manage conflict A strong knowledge of accounting processes and internal controls, preferably, with experience in a banking environment Must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills and be detail-oriented Must have the ability to prioritize and simultaneously handle deadlines, managing timely satisfaction of both ad-hoc requests and regular deliverables Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work with all levels of colleagues throughout the bank Strong work ethic and sense of urgency Computer proficiency required

Job Description:
Overview: This Business Segment (Segment) Controller role will be responsible for managing the accounting for the Company’s consumer finance business. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing technical accounting advice; providing business owners with insight and information about business activities; design, implementation and monitoring of key internal controls, including reconciliation oversight and SOX testing; policy execution, including the development of procedures; and user acceptance and regression support for new system implementation and systems conversion. This role will report to the Line of Business Controller with accountability to the Managing Director of Consumer Finance. Provide leadership and guidance supporting the overall First Niagara Finance philosophy and principles. Be a liaison between the business segment and Accounting. Uses influence to achieve business outcomes that are aligned with First Niagara accounting policies and standards. Key Responsibilities: Oversees all accounting for matters related to the Consumer Finance business, including accounting for MTM on derivatives, MSR accounting, and accounting related to indirect lending. Act as a collaborative business partner with business segment and a key resource for the business to communicate with the Line of Business Controller and other key accounting resources aligned in the Controllership function (Tax, Accounting Policy, etc.) Reviews and approves information provided by the business segment which is being used by Investor Relations, Regulatory and SEC Reporting to prepare consolidated reports. · Assesses accounting risk for the business segment, providing appropriate feedback while helping to drive effective accounting policies and efficient practices. Ensure that business segment accounting controls are designed and operating effectively; drives the quarterly certification of SOX 404 controls Responsible for ensuring reconciliations are performed in accordance with corporate policies and standards; drives the quarterly certification of reconciliations Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve controls and financial efficiency and effectiveness of business segment. · Actively participates in business segment initiatives and system implementations · Other duties as assigned · Must adhere to pertinent laws, regulations, First Niagara’s Compliance Policy and external compliance requirements.
