Job Description
The Business Systems Directorate at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is looking for Summer Interns with a strong background in contracts, general business, accounting, or finance.
Contracts Intern General Summary: Under the supervision of a Division Contracts Manager (DCM) or designee, the Contracts Intern will be responsible for the procurement of high-volume, readily available, off-the-shelf commercial items and services for Battelle/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

The Contracts Intern will act as the primary point of contact for all functions related to each award.
Key Accountabilities Performs the following duties with guidance from the DCM or designee:
  • Responsible for planning, preparation, submission and execution of basic non-complex, fixed-price
contracts for commercial off the shelf commodities and services.
  • Conducts market research for potential sources of supply or services, conducts negotiations and issues
contracts for routine procurements normally valued at less than $25,000.00.
  • Good to strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to draft simple contractual instruments in
accordance with prescribed templates and guidelines.
  • Develops working knowledge of Battelle/PNNL and DOE policies and procedures with respect to
government procurement regulations.

Reviews and interprets procurement policies, regulations and
procedures. Utilizes specific rules, regulation, and procedures normally contained in full measure in
PNNLs Acquisition Guidelines.
  • Performs work effort under the immediate supervision of a DCM or Sr. Contract Specialist (1 over 1 review)
directing generally how contracting actions are to be discharged.

Directions by supervisor will be clear,
detailed and specific in nature.

The specialist will consult with more senior staff or DACM on all matters not
specifically covered in PNNLs Acquisition Guidelines.
  • Determines reasonableness of price for goods and services procured through the use of non-complex
mechanisms such as basic price competition and use of published price lists.
  • Monitors expenditures, deliverables and completion dates of contracts.
  • Prepares documents for file close-out
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university.

Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

All staff at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory must be able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the United States.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Junior or above standing who have achieved an intermediate level of coursework, experience, or combination of the two.
Proficiency in personal computer usage with specific competency in Word and spreadsheet programs, preferably EXCEL.
Good oral and written communication skills, with proactive / outgoing attitude.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
