The primary purpose of this position is to participate in the system development life cycle including requirements gathering, design, testing, communication and deployment of Information Services Department (ISD) and business solutions. The employee serves as a liaison between ISD and the business units in order to maintain and enhance business systems, processes and technologies. The person in this position develops and maintains business process systems and supporting tools associated with those systems, assists customers in developing technology based solutions to meet business challenges, responds to customer information requests, and resolves complex issues for ISD and/or its customers.

The employee demonstrates a thorough knowledge of processes and procedures within ISD and the supported business units and is expected to continue formal and informal training to enhance and sustain these required skills. Position also provides direction to other PPL employees, contractors, and vendors. Position builds effective relationships with business partners and works collaboratively with ISD and the business lines. Position communicates effectively in a verbal and written manner.

This position will primarily be a part of teams for the Financial, Human Resources, and other PPL Services departments.

Primary Responsibilities

Provides independent support of and is expected to have a strong knowledge in the following areas:

Needs Discovery

  • The techniques of diagnosing, analyzing, and resolving business tool problems; Applies techniques to solve complex issues
  • Business process mapping
  • Alternative approaches to creating solutions
  • Requirements gathering
  • Translating business requirements into system functionality and design documents
  • Assisting the business line in writing clear and compelling business cases
  • Project estimating and identifying project milestones and project specific risks
  • Providing technical support for functional areas of the applicable business line
  • Utilizing personal productivity software such as spreadsheets, databases and query tools for data analysis, verification and presentation
  • Technology Management

  • IT Support for applications, technical areas, standards and supporting tools
  • Responding to customers’ questions on the use of existing and emerging technology tools, hardware and software
  • Staying abreast of current and emerging technologies through formal and informal training
  • Analysis, testing, and migration of new or upgraded products and technologies
  • Developing material to facilitate the use and understanding of ISD processes, services, and applications
  • Providing application and technical support during nonstandard business hours including storms and other emergency situations
  • Relationship Management and Communication

  • Collaborating with internal technical experts and external vendors
  • Building effective relationships with business partners and works collaboratively with the business lines to set realistic expectations and deliverables
  • Building effective relationships with ISD team members and works collaboratively with internal groups to set realistic expectations and deliverables


  • Candidate Qualifications

    Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

    Basic Qualifications

    Business Systems Analyst - BS/BA degree with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience or HS diploma and 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.

    Sr. Business Systems Analyst - BS/BA degree with 5 to 7 years of relevant experience or HS diploma and 7 to 9 years of relevant experience.

    Lead Business Systems Analyst - BS/BA degree with 7 to 9 years of relevant experience or HS diploma with 9 to 11 years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Acts with the customer in mind, works with customers to gather business requirements and translate into system requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present ideas in a concise and focused manner.
  • Experience with testing tools and writing/executing tests.
  • Experience with SQL or other query tool.
  • Some knowledge of computer languages, programming and development tools.
  • International Institute of Business Analysts Certification.
  • Project management experience.
