The available opportunity is a critical role within Carrier's fast-paced commercial chiller manufacturing business. It requires a self-directed focus on achieving and exceeding for existing programs, new generations and new business pursuits.

In support of its ongoing business growth, the company is seeking candidates for the position of Manufacturing Buyer-Production Planner. This position has the full responsibility for planning and buying of assigned projects for Carrier Charlotte Chiller Operations. Projects are associated with product development and improvements, part obsolescence, field issues, safety issues, cost reduction, and outsourcing/insourcing initiatives. The role will include meeting program cost, schedule and technical requirements. In this hands-on position, the incumbent will work in a fast paced environment and will lead the day-to-day sourcing, buying, and ERP functions of the company while also assisting with the direction for the future strategic supply chain initiatives of the company. This position is accountable for process improvement/development utilizing the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) operating system and skills training. This position is accountable for introduction of new products, major product enhancements and resourcing product utilizing the PASSPORT process at local or WHQ levels.

In this hands-on position, the incumbent will work in a fast paced environment and will lead the day-to-day sourcing, buying, and ERP functions of the company while also assisting with the direction for the future strategic supply chain initiatives of the company.

Attention to detail and the ability to make quick decisions based on knowledge of purchasing standards are important success factors for this position. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of direct, hands-on experience with procurement, buying/purchasing, and scheduling in a manufacturing environment including:

Preparing and placing orders
Monitoring inventory levels
Communicating supply shortages to operations/manufacturing
Finding alternative and secondary sources as needed
Working with Engineering to find substitute or negotiate a price for small quantity buys
Qualifying and improving quality of outside suppliers
Coordinating all the material into production
Reducing cycle-times and lead-times
Reducing costs through purchasing negotiation and inventory management
Coordinating and revising master schedules
Tracking on-time delivery and other important metrics affecting supply chain and manufacturing
Participate in inventory management initiatives

Education:
Bachelors of Science in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, or equivalent

Experience:
Additionally, candidates must possess:
3+ years of purchasing or planning in a manufacturing environment, preferably in metals-based commodities (aluminum, steel, cast iron), metal castings, machining operations.

APIC's certification a plus.

Viable candidates must have strong negotiation skills with specific expertise in the procurement of raw materials to finished products.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Additional skills required include an ability to professionally place purchase orders to meet production schedules, while maintaining good supplier relationships and maintaining cost controls.

Must have good inter-personal skills and the ability to multi-task.

Quantitative spreadsheet analysis of material cost and financial data

Product and manufacturing process innovation as a conduit for new cost reduction opportunity

Technical knowledge / understanding of the commercial HVAC product industry or ability to learn expeditiously.

A strong working competency and ability to continuously and independently expand capabilities with the following computer software applications is required:
